Much of SUARAM’s work is in monitoring and documentation of human rights violations in Malaysia. The work consists of gathering information from victim of human rights abuses, monitoring the media and reporting on political trends. We publish the Malaysia Human Rights Report annually amongst other publications. We function as an information centre for human rights issues whereby we compile, analyse and use the information in our advocacy work. SUARAM also plays a role in the Universal Periodic Review process. Information is compiled, analysed and used for our advocacy work. In addition to that, SUARAM also monitors the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) to ensure that it serves its functions to promote and protect human rights in Malaysia.
