Gerakan Mansuhkan ISA (GMI) expresses condemnation towards the statement by the Home Minister Hishamuddin Hussein and Inspector General of the Police (IGP), Musa Hassan that the government and the police would not hesitate to use the draconian Internal Security Act (ISA) against those who were responsible for the bombing of the 3 churches in Klang Valley which have been linked to protests against the recent “Allah” ruling.

Throughout his autocratic reign, Dr Mahathir displayed contempt for the rule of law. Some say he was ignorant of this principle of democratic governance, confounding it with “rule by law”. His frontal assault on the Malaysian judiciary in 1988 was an embarrassment for the nation so much so that his successor had to atone for this injury to “national security” twenty years later.

(MalaysiaKini) Amendments to the Internal Security Act and the Police Act, especially on the right to hold assemblies, will be tabled in the October Parliament sitting and if possible approved in the December sitting.

Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, in revealing this today, however said the government will be holding discussions with all stakeholders before that.
