INVITATION TO BOOK LAUNCH OF BEYOND THE BLUE GATE & 445 DAYS UNDER THE ISA

Date: Wednesday, 27 October 2010
Time: 7.30 pm – 10.30 pm
Venue: KL and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH), Kuala Lumpur.

Dear friends and colleagues,

This year is the 23rd anniversary of mass arrests and detentions using the dreaded Internal Security Act. History witnessed the arrest of 106 Malaysians under Operation Lalang and 22 Singaporeans under Operation Spectrum.

To re-examine this significant era, Strategic Information and Research Development Centre (SIRD), Abolish ISA Movement (GMI) and Civil Rights Committee (CRC-KLSCAH) are organising the launch of TWO books by ex-ISA detainees:
• Beyond the Blue Gate: Recollections of a Political Prisoner by Teo Soh Lung
• 445 Days Under The ISA: Operation Lalang, 1987-89 by Dr Kua Kia Soong
During this function, we will have a discussion on the theme “In Retrospect of Operation Lalang-Spectrum: Re-Examination of Malaysia’s & Singapore’s 23 Years of Civil Rights & Social Movement in Post-Operation Lalang-Spectrum Era”. We are honoured to have Teo Soh Lung, Dr Kua Kia Soong and Hishamuddin Rais with us on the panel of speakers.

Every distinguished social activist and friends from both countries are welcome to attend this retrospective discussion.
