SUARAM PRESS STATEMENT
Dr SHARIIBUU WILLING TO TESTIFY BEFORE FRENCH COURTS
SUARAM has yesterday met, Dr Setev Sharibuu, father of murdered Mongolian woman, Altantuya, in his quest to bring closure to the death of his daughter.
On his 2nd visit to Malaysia, Dr Shariibuu has made contact with SUARAM, to get updates on the trial that just opened in France, on kickbacks and illegal commissions paid out to politicians in both France and Malaysia.
Altantuya had been shot dead and then blown up with military-grade explosives by two Malaysian Special Action Unit officers in 2006, for her involvement as an interpreter in the controversial purchase of submarines from French shipbuilding conglomerate DCNS.
The trial in France will be heard at the Tribunal de Grande Instance, a first degree court that deals with civil litigation matters. Judges designated to hear the case include Judge Roger LE LOIRE and Judge Serge TOURNAIRE.
While the murder of Altantuya is not directly the subject matter of ongoing investigations in France, her brutal murder is intricately and unmistakably tied to the corruption scandal of illegal commissions dogging current Prime Minister Najib and his counterparts in France.
Mr Shariibuu has expressed his unequivocal support to SUARAM’s efforts at pursuing the case and has stated his willingness to appear before the judge as a witness, if deemed necessary. Dr Shariibuu feels that he has vital information to share before the courts that could help bring the truth closer to light.
He hopes that the French investigations can zero in on the motives behind the brutal killing of his daughter, and the criminals behind this crime be exposed and punished.
