RESTORE SARAWAKIANS’ RIGHTS TO THEIR OIL RESOURCES

Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali has told Parliament that Pakatan Harapan’s election promise of giving a 20% “royalty” to oil producing states was based on “a loose definition of the word…The term cash payment is not used generally, but it is generally understood to mean a royalty”. He said that a special Cabinet committee had been formed to negotiate with the oil-producing states on how to increase the 15% payments to them, on top of the existing 5% of gross profit cash payment under the Petroleum Development Act.

Opposition lawmakers from Sarawak have since accused Pakatan of reneging on its promise of not only giving 20% royalty on gross production of oil but also failing to uphold and restore the rights of Sarawak to the Malaysian Agreement of 1963.

TOWERING HYPOCRISY ABOVE A TRILLION RINGGIT DEBT HOLE

After the alarmist alert over the country’s RM1 trillion national debt and the tear-jerking calls for patriotic citizens to donate to Tabung Harapan to plug this debt hole, we are now told that a new tallest skyscraper, “Tower M” is to be built to dwarf the soon-to-be tallest TRX 106 (“Tower N”?). So, whatever happened to the call for austerity in government spending and the need to cut down on grandiose schemes? No prizes for guessing where the money for this latest white elephant will come from…
