PSM CAN SPEARHEAD ‘THIRD PROGRESSIVE FORCE’ AT SEMENYIH BYELECTION

On May 9th 2018, the Malaysian people chose to cast their votes for the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Coalition because their GE14 Manifesto had promised to implement wide ranging reforms that made them appear radically different from the governance experienced under the BN. As events have unfolded, PH seems to have become more and more like BN 2.0 especially with the latest assimilation of UMNO MPs into Parti Pribumi. Was this the change we voted for in GE14? PH is now willing to work with the man who, during his 22 years in office, was responsible for privatizing practically all of Malaysian industry and destroying whatever semblance of democracy we had. More seriously, PH has driven PAS into a closer alliance with UMNO.

PSM CANDIDATES ARE OUR SEEDS OF HOPE

Is there much of a choice between a regime that is led by Najib and another led by Mahathir? Both have fallen well short of democratic rule for the good of all, in their autocratic ruling style, whether it be of the whole country or of specific States in Malaysia, with neo-liberal economic policies which favour the affluent and the well connected. Fortunately, there is an alternative agenda presented by Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) which though small in size, provides a beacon of hope for Malaysian politics, a beacon that focuses on the big issues and not personalities.

We are told that this GE14 is about BN versus PH and small parties such as PSM should stay out. When the market is cornered by Coca Cola and Pepsi Cola, there is all the more reason for a healthy drink to replace them in the long run!
