Invitation to Official Launch of Gerakan Hapus Akta Hasutan (GHAH)

GHAH launching poster
Dear friends,

Greetings of peace from Gerakan Hapus Akta Hasutan (GHAH).

With more and more fellow Malaysians facing investigation and charges under the Sedition Act, 128 civil society organizations have expressed grave concerns and endorsed the need to launch a concerted campaign to abolish the draconian Sedition Act 1948 in a joint statement on 5 September 2014.

We thanks those who have supported the joint statement. The joint statement is still open for endorsement and we hope to increase the endorsement to 300 NGOs to show an increase of disapproval of the Sedition Act. If your organisation have not endorsed the joint statement and wish to endorse now, please send to [email protected].

For the next step, we are going to launch the Gerakan Hapus Akta Hasutan officially to keep up the public pressure on the government and the prime minister during the eve of the Malaysia Day and the International Day of Democracy on the following:

Date                : 15 September 2014 (Monday)

Time                : 8.30 pm – 11.00 pm

Venue              : Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (No. 1, Jalan Maharajalela, Kuala Lumpur)

We have invited all victims of the Sedition Act 1948 and their family members to attend the launch of GHAH. They will be speaking about their persecution under the Sedition Act.

We have also invited well respected civil society leaders such as national literature laureate Pak Samad Said and former president of Bar Council, Dato Ambiga Sreenevasan to speak at the launch as well.

GHAH will also announce our campaign plan and activities during the launch.
Let’s extend our solidarity support to all the victims of the Sedition Act 1948 and defend our collective right to freedom of expression and opinion! We simply cannot allow the citizenry to be cowed into silence by the archaic Sedition Act.
What you can immediately help GHAH and the campaign is:
1. Attend the official launch of GHAH on 15 September 2014.
2. Share this letter to your family members, friends and colleagues
3. Mobilize your circles to join the launch and the campaign to abolish the Sedition Act.

For inquiry, please contact Suaram at +603 77843525 or email [email protected].Hope to see you on 15 September 2014.

In solidarity,

Gerakan Hapus Akta Hasutan (GHAH)
