PM SHOULD TAKE OVER THE HOME MINISTRY TOO

Press statement by Kua Kia Soong, SUARAM Adviser 12 Jan 2020

While our nonagenarian Prime Minister has proactively taken over the Education portfolio – albeit temporarily – simply because he sees that the minister concerned had to be removed and important reforms need to be implemented, may we suggest he does the same with the Home Ministry? For while education concerns the application of so called “soft skills” that take time to come to fruition, the failings of the Home Ministry concern questions of life and death of human beings and the fundamental liberties of Malaysians. Therefore, we propose that our talented PM also considers taking over the Home Ministry temporarily in order to clear these rather pressing issues that confound the Malaysian public. After all, he was also Home Minister during Operation Lalang in 1987.

SO WHO IS WIRE TAPPING MALAYSIA’S PRIME MINISTER?

Press statement by Kua Kia Soong, SUARAM Adviser 10 Jan 2020

In their excitement to try to further incriminate the former Prime Minister Najib Razak by releasing phone recordings clearly obtained from wire taps on the then PM in 2016, the MACC Chief Commissioner, the IGP and the present PM seem to treat this serious breach of national security with uncharacteristic nonchalance. SOLEIMANI’S ASSASSINATION IS WAR PROVOCATION BY TRUMP

Press statement by SUARAM Adviser Kua Kia Soong, 7 Jan 2020

The assassination of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani is perhaps the most reckless and irresponsible action yet by Donald Trump, who has been war-mongering ever since he tore up the nuclear deal with Iran. Surrounded by hawkish advisers, this extra-judicial killing in Baghdad will create a bigger war than we have yet seen in the Middle East, involving even other countries including Israel, Saudi Arabia and possibly Russia. It is not surprising that while global stocks fell across the globe after this dire news broke, the stocks of the arms contractors such Raytheon and Lockheed rose steeply.

Press statement by Kua Kia Soong, SUARAM Adviser 2 Jan 2020

There are certain economic indicators for judging if we have attained the high-income society we aimed for in Vision 2020. Unfortunately, we have failed to make the mark despite the warnings by those who could see the impediments in the way decades ago. And we cannot simply move the goal posts like we can with other domestic policies!

THE QUESTIONABLE IMPARTIALITY OF THE MALAYSIAN POLICE

Press statement by Kua Kia Soong, SUARAM Adviser 29 Dec 2019

The suppression of the congress of Chinese educationists over the khat issue by the Malaysian police sadly followed the same strategy we have seen repeated again and again during the last few decades. When the Prime Minister announced a few days ago, that this privately convened congress would, in his logic, lead to opposing rallies by Malay groups, it was the cue for Malay supremacists to spring into action and threaten a demonstration against this congress.
